A Step-by-Step Guide from Hand Picked Nursery

Ranunculus are beloved for their layers of rose-like petals and bright spring colors. With our Hand Picked Nursery Ranunculus Grow Kit, you can grow these stunning blooms easily from home — even before spring arrives!

Each kit includes everything you need: pots, humidity domes, soil, sand, and healthy ranunculus bulbs (also known as tubers).

Follow these simple steps to get your flowers started and enjoy a colorful display come springtime.

🌱 Step 1: Soak the Bulbs

  • Remove your ranunculus bulbs (tubers) from the bag and soak only the roots in a cup of water for 3–4 hours. Make sure it is not chlorinated water and change water 2 hour mark.
  • This softens and rehydrates the bulbs so they’re ready to grow strong, healthy roots.

💡 Pro Tip: Don’t over-soak — wrinkled or mushy bulbs may rot. Pat the bulbs dry before planting.

🌿 Step 2: Prepare the Soil Mix

  • Combine the provided bags of 70% soil and 30% sand until evenly blended. Sand is key to success.
  • Fill the tray with about 1 inches of this mixture to create a well-draining base.
  • Make sure you are very clean when preparing the soil. Wash your hand and sterilize your equipment. Mold can grow in humid conditions.
  • Cool temperatures (around 50–60°F) encourage strong root growth before blooms appear.

This blend mimics the loose, sandy soil that ranunculus prefer, preventing excess moisture around their roots.

🌷 Step 3: Plant the Bulbs

  • Place each bulb claw side down (the “spidery” end) into the soil.
  • Cover lightly so the top of the bulb remains partly exposed.
  • If you have the dome put it on a little crooked. You want to trap the humidity but have an air gap.

If any bulbs start to show white fuzz or mold, remove them immediately to keep others healthy.

đź’§ Step 4: Add Humidity & Light

  • Place the humidity dome over the pot to maintain moisture as the bulbs sprout.
  • Only water when the soil feels dry to the touch — overwatering can lead to rot.
  • At first needs only warmth and humidity and no light. Until you see growth and then keep your pots in a bright window or under grow lights with good airflow.

🌼 Ongoing Care

  • Water sparingly until you see green shoots emerge.
  • Once leaves appear, gradually increase watering frequency.
  • When plants are established, move them to a sunny location for best blooms.
  • After flowering, let the foliage die back naturally before storing bulbs for next year.
