We recommend a soil pH level of 6.5 - 6.8 for strawberry plants. We also recommend adding sand to our soil. Bare root strawberry plants need to have well draining soil. Add at least 30 percent and mix in with a rich compost type soil.

Ozark Strawberry Plant bears fruit 12-14 weeks after planting.To double your fruit we would recommend pinching of the flowers. Every flower you pinch you will receive two flowers. You can produce a pint of strawberries per plant. Patience will pay huge rewards.

Avoid Common Mistakes Planting Portola

  • Read free planting guide 1-3 months before planting.
  • Plants will fail to flourish if roots are too deep or too shallow.
  • Pack soil firmly around the roots.
  • Do not plant near wild plants or plants whose origins are unknown.
  • Water well one to three times a week, not every day.
  • Avoid fertilizer burn by fertilizing only after plants are established.
  • Do not soak plants in water more than 1 hour!
